Students from the Bowie High School Art Club have partnered with MRC to participate in the New Year’s Eve First Night Parade (www.firstnightaustin.org). They have chosen to highlight the diversity of refugees that are settled to Austin and to create a monument representing their home country. The students chose historical monuments from each country represented as well as created country flags. Johnson is seen here helping the students apply paper mache to one of the monuments.
The participants will also march with American flags and the whole display will represent the blending of the old and the new lives of refugees settled to Austin. Everyone is welcome to participate so if you would like to join us for the parade we are meeting at 6th and Congress in front of the Starbucks at 4:45pm. The parade begins at 6pm and will end up at Auditorium Shores at 8pm.
Happy Holidays to you all!!
